Ottawa benefits from one of the world’s most highly regarded healthcare systems. Once you are a resident of Ontario, most healthcare needs are covered by the province’s medical coverage. Private healthcare plans are available, if required, to cover specialized treatments that do not fall under the province’s scope of coverage.

Ottawa has 4 main hospitals:

• The Ottawa Hospital (Civic, General and Riverside campuses)
• Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO)
• Queensway-Carleton Hospital
• Montfort Hospital

In addition, there are a number of specialized hospitals and clinics in the region, including the Royal Ottawa Hospital providing specialty mental care in Eastern Ontario and the Canadian Department of Defence’s military hospital. Ottawa residents receive some of the best medical care in the world.
